It also serviced the following advisory bodies during the early 1970s: Theatre Technicians' Working Party (later Technicians and Stage Management Working Group) (1970/71-1978/79), Directors' Working Group (1970/71-1978/79), Designers' Working Group(1970/71-1978/79), Drama Schools Working Group (later Performers' Working Group) (1970/71-1978/79), Theatre Administration Working Party (1970/71) and Training Committee (1970/71 onwards).

Scope and content

This series incorporates Drama Department records originally marked as DG/MISC/AD (amateur dramatic societies), DG/MISC/AR (annual reports), DG/MISC/APP (companies wanting financial assistance), DG/MISC/PP (press, publicity and publications), DG/MISC/PUP (puppetry), DG/MISC/RandI (UI) (useful information), DG/MISC/C (correspondence), DG/SUB/S.ENQ (special enquiries), DG/SUB/B (bursaries) and DG/SUB/MISC (miscellaneous subjects). It also contains material which, although not identified as part of the DG series, is very closely related by content.

For DG/ORG files see ACGB/34.

The files cover a very broad range of topics, including catering in the theatre, censorship, computerised booking systems, entertainments tax, festivals, 'Housing the Arts' and transport subsidy. There are files relating to the Scottish and Welsh Arts Councils, and to the Northern Ireland Council for the Encouragement of Music and the Arts (later the Arts Council of Northern Ireland). Unless otherwise stated, these files contain most or all of the following: applications for subsidy, budgets, correspondence, grant notifications, memos, minutes, newspaper cuttings, press releases, printed publicity material, reports relating to the area of theatre under enquiry, statistical information and survey results.

This series is arranged to reflect the original file references.
