Scope and content

This series contains papers relating to major areas of direct promotion by theFilm, Video and Broadcasting Department. Direct promotion consisted of activities carried out directly by the Arts Council itself and not through another body or client. In the case of the Film, Video and Broadcasting Department this included art film tours, film and video sales and licensing, the film and video library and exhibitions.

Until 1986 the Council's activities in film were managed by the Visual Arts Department and when responsibility for film was transfered to the newFilm, Video and Broadcasting Department not all the early papers relating to film were handed over. Therefore papers relating to film and especially art film tours can still be found amongst the Visual Arts Department's papers. See ACGB/30 for such papers relating to major direct promotion.
