The Ethnic Minority Arts Unit was renamed Cultural Diversity in 1991, after the short-lived Arts Access Unit had disbanded. Peter Blackman, who had led the Arts Access Unit, continued as the Head of Cultural Diversity.
There are some pre-Cultural Diversity Unit records in this series which reflects the continuity of work in the area of access and equal opportunities, in spite of all the restructuring and the change of name.
This series contains a number of general files relating to, for example, regional matters, application for funding and general enquiries. There are also files relating to specific schemes and organisations such as the Cultural Diversity Task Force, the Minority Arts Advisory Service, Artrage and the National Arts Strategy.

Restrictions on access
Access to unpublished material less than 30 years old may be restricted and requests for access can take up to 20 working days to be processed. When applying for access, it is helpful if you can quote the reference number, title and covering dates of the file(s) in question.
