COURSE: Explore the fascinating histories behind some of Europe’s most iconic buildings. Tuesdays, 17 April – 12 June 2012 (Bank holiday: 5 June 2012), 18.30–20.30

Discover what inspired architects and learn about the wide networks of artists and designers employed to realise ambitious design schemes and satisfy demanding patrons. Trace the evolution and survival of different architectural styles and learn how key buildings were perceived and used by the people who inhabited them. Examine a broad and eclectic range of European buildings, including Palladio’s celebrated villas, Versailles, Strawberry Hill and London Underground headquarters at 55 Broadway. Drawing on the rich collections and expertise of curators at the V&A and the Royal Institute of British Architects,this course offers a lavish and evocative visual narrative of the history of architecture from the Renaissance to the twentieth century.
