SHORT COURSE: Explore the lives of four great pioneers of food as theatre, alongside key items from the V&A collections, including equipment, designs and images will help to illustrate the extraordinary worlds created by these visionary chefs.
Antonin Careme, the Georgian founder of haute cuisine, whose elaborate sugar temples rose five feet off the table. Alexis Soyer, the Victorian showman who founded London’s only culinary theme park. Auguste Escoffier, who created Edwardian London’s most theatrical dining experiences. And Heston Blumenthal, their natural heir, whose smells, soundtracks and dramatic visual effects work hard to engage all of his diners’ senses.
