LIVE MUSIC: Join us for a concert by Gareth Lockrane’s Grooveyard and hear acoustic renditions of their repertoire influenced by soul-jazz, gospel, hard bop and world music.
Gareth Lockrane started playing the flute at the age of 10 and discovered jazz at 14. A formidable flautist, his early influences include jazz greats such as Cannonball Adderley, Miles Davis and John Coltrane, as well as blues-rock guitarists of the 60s and 70s like Jimi Hendrix, Albert King and Eric Clapton, and flautists Jeremy Steig, Eric Dolphy and Eddie Parker amongst many others.
An exceptional soloist and a versatile collaborator, Lockrane is currently involved in many diverse musical projects. On this occasion he plays compositions from his last album with the Grooveyard ‘The Strut’, recently named MOJO’s magazine jazz album of 2012.
