In 1626 Sir John Eliot lamented to Parliament the lost jewels of Elizabeth I. Fashion and monetary value made perilous the survival of any jewel. From the Drake Jewel and the Hunsdon Jewels preserved by their families to the Boteler Ring found on the tooth of a harrow.
