FOUR WEEK SHORT COURSE: This course explores the architecture, interiors and decoration of the greatest country houses of England, ranging from the Medieval manor, to the Jacobean powerhouse, the Georgian mansion, and the Gothic Revival castle.
It examines the careers of the most influential architects including Robert Smythson, Inigo Jones and Charles Voysey. And it draws on celebrated houses such as Hardwick Hall, Chatsworth, Boughton, Syon House, and more recent examples like Waddesdon Manor, Standen, and Parham. The course surveys the key periods in the history of country house decoration and covers the major interior fashions and styles, focusing on textiles, plasterwork, furniture, woodwork and works of art.
