Josiah Wedgwood was an innovator, artist, chemist and, above all, a marketing wizard. His ambition was to be known as “Vase Maker General to the Universe”, and thanks to his genius in marketing, that wish came true.

Direct mail order, the money-back guarantee and buy-one- get-one-free are just a few of the tools, commonplace today, that were invented by him. Visiting the British and Ceramic Galleries, V&A guide Mina Renton will look at the development of Wedgwood’s famous ceramic bodies, culminating in the Portland Vase, which he considered to be his masterpiece.

V&A Guided Tour
