ALESSI Made in Crusinallo. The Beauty and the Mastery
- Where:Sackler Centre Entrance Lobby
DISPLAY: Many objects are simply part of everyday life; in the neutral, reassuring setting of home we make use of them almost without noticing. Then there are objects which somehow make commonplace gestures more pleasing, more straightforward, and more personal.
Alessi was founded in 1921 by Giovanni Alessi and has been able to develop a policy of design excellence which has made it one of the leading internationally renowned Italian Design Factories. Alessi started its life in metalworking and continues to produce metal pieces to this day.
This display in the foyer of the V&A’s Sackler Centre provides visitors a rare insight into production processes of the world-famous brand, exposing the making skills of its factory by picking key pieces from their archive to embellish each story.
The installation itself is reminiscent of the workshops at the brand’s factory in Crusinallo, Italy. Pieces are displayed in their production cages, and ‘Household Goods Factory’, a film on the factory seen through the eyes of Turkish video artist Ali Kazma, will be screened throughout the Festival.
