The year 2014 marks the 40th anniversary of the V&A’s landmark exhibition ‘The Destruction of the Country House’. Commissioned by Roy Strong and curated by John Harris, Marcus Binney and Peter Thornton, the exhibition chronicled the devastating losses of fine country houses across Britain during the preceding century.

It resulted in an abrupt halt to the demolition of historic country houses, but the battle was far from over as dozens more were found to be standing empty, decaying and abandoned. Drawing from his experience of nearly 40 years at the helm of SAVE Britain’s Heritage, Marcus Binney joins us to discuss this great and continuing saga.
