Uncovering the hidden meanings behind jewels and gemstones from the Renaissance to the end of the nineteenth century, jewellery expert Susan Rumfitt will deal with the allegorical interpretation of love, featuring cupid, the lover’s knot and various symbols common in jewellery from 1500 to 1800.
The importance of particular gemstones and their association with love will be considered, as well as the Romantic Movement of the Victorian period, with Susan discussing the significance of flowers and animals in sentimental jewellery and the shared love of jewels by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert.
