In November 1596 a woman named Elizabeth Russell began a campaign that would nearly destroy Shakespeare’s career and leave him facing financial ruin.

Leading an uprising against his theatrical troupe and business partners, she turned his closest friends and allies against him. Join Dr Chris Laoutaris of the Shakespeare Institute as he discusses his latest publication, Shakespeare and the Countess, as part of the V&A’s Shakespeare Festival that marks the 450th anniversary of the playwright’s birth.
