“I pine away, grievously wounded by the power of my love for that pearl.” Using objects from the Word & Image Department, untangle the many layers of love, bereavement, beauty, faith and visionary experience in this fourteenth-century poem.
From its medieval context, V&A curator Ruth Hibbard will give an insight into how it has been discovered in work by medievalists and Pre-Raphaelites in the nineteenth century, and its poignant reuse during the First World War.
