EVENING EVENT: Glimpse into the parallel lives of black people living in the Caribbean, the Americas and Georgian Britain, ‘invisible’ to Kentian society.
Examine the lives of scholars, seamen, artist sitters, biographers, abolitionists, a witch doctor, members of African royalty, shopkeepers, servants, gardeners and fieldworkers, with historian S. I. Martin, against a backdrop of Enlightenment, the transatlantic slave trade and the Industrial Revolution.
You can also view films, engage in debate, travel back in time through re-enactments, join a curator led tour of the exhibition ‘William Kent: Designing Georgian Britain’, re-visit the 2007 Bicentenery trails ‘Traces of the Trade’, and have your say and create your own ‘sugar’ campaign.
Talks, workshops and William Kent Exhibition Tour £5, all other events are free.
