FAMILY EVENT: Pick up a design challenge and bring your own fantastic ideas to life. On selected days, create an Outrageous Outfit, curate a Cabinet of Curiosities, design your own Pop up Playground and make your own monogram in Lively Letters.

Sunday 8 March
Lively Letters
Search the Museum for unusual letters, you will find them on lots of surfaces including glass, tapestry, ceramics and marble, as well as in old hand-written books. Then create your own marvellous monogram masterpiece!

Sunday 15 March
Outrageous Outfits
Search the Museum for unique accessories. Look for interesting shapes, lines, colours and design an accessory to make your outfit more outrageous for a party at the V&A.

Sunday 22 March
Norouz: celebrating spring at Persian New Year
Mark the beginning of the Persian New Year celebration of Norouz, come and listen to traditional songs, storytelling, sound art and poetry, watch dance performances, help make a giant 3D paper Garden Carpet for a Persian picnic, create designs for tiles, and find out all about the animals, plants and objects that represent spring.

Sunday 29 March
Crazy Costumes
Albert the Alien needs a crazy costume. Families read the story of Albert landing on earth and then explore the Museum to find objects for his costume. Children could draw a chair for a hat or see an interesting shape on a sculpture that would make a great cloak. Back in the studio, they create an illustration of Albert's costume.

Easter Holidays

Friday 3 – Sunday 12 April
Explore the world of wild fashion this Easter through fairy-tales, myths, legends and animals in the collections. Create your own piece of costume to wear at the Imagination Station and take part in an interactive performance where you’ll meet fantastical characters and hear strange and wonderful tales.

Sunday 19 April
Project Photo
Create your own photographic image on acetate inspired by the museum’s photographic collection. Learn about the photographic process and then project your image onto a screen.

Sunday 26 April
Parade of the Animals
Search the museum for animal features that you can use in your mask, headdress or cape. For example; the large ears of an elephant, a tigers bold stripes or the long curly whiskers of a cat.

Sunday 3 May
May Bank Holiday
Explore the collection with the new Seeking Sculpture trail and draw your own invented piece of sculpture combining details of what you find along the way.

Sunday 10 May
Incredible Inventions
Become inspired by the Museum’s weird and wonderful inventions, from Glove Stretchers to Moustache Spoons, then design and make a prototype of your own Incredible Invention.

Sunday 17 May
Cabinets of Curiosities
Explore the museum to discover curious treasures. What do they have in common? Consider colour, materials, function and shape. Select and collect objects and artworks to create your own Cabinet of Curiosity.

Saturday 23 – Sunday 31 May
May Half-Term
Join us this May half-term to explore the creative world of Renaissance Italy. Imagine you’re an artist presenting your designs to the magnificent Medici’s. Play your part in an interactive performance in the galleries and soak up the atmosphere surrounded by renaissance art and architecture.

Refugee Week
Join us to create your own Kaleidoscope mirrored b0x inspired by the new Damascus Room display. Collect geometric patterns and shapes from the collection to add to your design.

Sunday 28 June
Pop up Playgrounds
Families imagine what it would be like if the V&A was their playground and they could play on all the fabulous furniture, objects and sculptures. Families design and make pop-up playgrounds displaying all the objects they would like to slide down, bounce on, climb up or play on.

Drop-in Design runs every Sunday during term time throughout the year. The July – September programme will be published in June.

Imagination Station and take part in an interactive performance where you’ll meet fantastical characters and hear strange and wonderful tales.
