Sunday 25 January
Become inspired by the Museum’s weird and wonderful inventions, from Glove Stretchers to Moustache Spoons, then design and make a prototype of your own Incredible Invention.
Sunday 1 February
Dragon Puppets & Fans
The Emperor of China invites you to festival celebrations at the Imperial Palace. Explore the galleries to see beautiful treasures and discover hidden dragons, before designing and making your own dragon puppet or beautiful fan.
Sunday 8 February
Pop-up Playgrounds (activity designed by Abberant Architecture)
Families imagine what it would be like if the V&A was their playground and they could play on all the fabulous furniture, objects and sculptures. Families design and make pop-up playgrounds displaying all the objects they would like to slide down, bounce on, climb up or play on.
Sunday 15 & 22 February
February Half-Term programme
Join us for a half-term full of creative activities inspired by the Blue and White: British Printed Ceramics display. Imagine you’re an adventurer to the Middle and Far-East in search of new patterns and design your own blue and white piece of art, explore the story of the Willow Pattern in our interactive story performance and learn about ceramic printing in our Make it workshop.
Sunday 1 March
Create your own photographic film reel on acetate inspired by the museum’s photographic collection. Learn about the photographic process and then project your image onto a screen.
Sunday 8 March
Search the Museum for unusual letters, you will find them on lots of surfaces including glass, tapestry, ceramics and marble, as well as in old hand-written books. Then create your own marvellous monogram masterpiece!
Sunday 15 March
Search the Museum for unique accessories. Look for interesting shapes, lines, colours and design an accessory to make your outfit more outrageous for a party at the V&A.
Sunday 22 March
Norouz: celebrating spring at Persian New Year
Mark the beginning of the Persian New Year celebration of Norouz, come and listen to traditional songs, storytelling, sound art and poetry, watch dance performances, help make a giant 3D paper Garden Carpet for a Persian picnic, create designs for tiles, and find out all about the animals, plants and objects that represent spring.
Sunday 29 March
Albert the Alien needs a crazy costume. Families read the story of Albert landing on earth and then explore the Museum to find objects for his costume. Children could draw a chair for a hat or see an interesting shape on a sculpture that would make a great cloak. Back in the studio, they create an illustration of Albert's costume.
Drop in Design takes place on Sundays except during the school holidays when a variety of other activities take place. Please See the Family Art Fun Calendar for details.
