This book is based on the true story of Laika, a stray russian dog that was plucked from the streets of Moscow and placed on the first rocket to go into orbit of the earth in 1957.

I wrote and illustrated this picture book and explores the themes of space exploration, finding a family, and even life after death.

The illustrations were inspired by Russian Constructivist Propaganda Posters of the 1950s and I used as much legitimate reference and accurate imagery as possible in the first half of the book. The latter half in which we see Laika's happier ending, obviously had more liberties taken with my artistic license.
