The Explorer, The Thinker and The Leader

The Explorer, The Thinker and The Leader

In these three posters I explore representations of femininity and female identity positions. Each poster is based on a stereotypically male identity position that is not usually associated with or accessible for women. How can such positions represent women without sexualizing them? I have considered the characters physical positions and I am very conscious of not sexualizing the characters. The Thinker is inspired by Degas ‘The Thinker’ and the Explorer have one leg on a rock, pointing in a direction to show the way or point to land being conquered. The Leader is inspired by the Abraham Lincoln statue, where my character sits on a throne-like chair and is seen from below looking up. This gives the character a powerful appearance.
