Women, Artists and Sisters: Virginia Woolf and Vanessa Bell.

Women, Artists and Sisters: Virginia Woolf and Vanessa Bell.

The two page spreads are taken from a picture book about Virginia Woolf and Vanessa Bell I am currently developing for my MA Illustration Project 1. With my illustrations I want to uncover a remarkably close and creative relationship that these two sisters had and to tell their stories of becoming an artist and a writer, growing up in a Victorian house in Kensington, then moving to bohemian Bloomsbury and becoming the centre of the famous Bloomsbury group, seeing first Impressionists and Post-Impressionists exhibitions held in London in 1910, living through WWI and WWII and how all that time they never stopped creating, supporting each other and being fully committed to their craft.
The medium is a combination of digital and traditional methods: watercolour and ink paintings digitally edited and collaged.
