Published & Student Category Terms and Conditions

Published Category: Conditions of entry 2017

  • The published category awards are open to illustrators resident in the UK or publishing within the UK book and editorial market.
  • Work published on or after 1 January 2016 (until the competition deadline) will be eligible for the 2017 awards.
  • Entries must have been commercially commissioned. Self-published works are not eligible for entry to the competition.
  • Entry into the Awards is via the Online Entry System only. Email or postal submissions cannot be considered.
  • Up to three images may be submitted per entry. Please provide links to further images if required. 
  • All images uploaded must be in the JPEG format, using the extension .jpg
  • JPEG file names must use letters and numbers only and must not include other characters such as ampersands (&) etc.
  • Images must be a maximum file size of 1MB and no larger than 900 pixels in width. Please provide links to further images if required.
  • Entrants to the Editorial category must be prepared, if short-listed, to lend some or all of the original publications for the last stage of judging, which takes place in February 2017.
  • Winners must be prepared to lend some or all of the original artwork for the display of winners, which will run from May to August 2017.
  • Entrants grant the Victoria and Albert Museum a non-exclusive licence to reproduce artwork for use in web and printed media publicity for the V&A Illustration Awards.
  • No correspondence will be entered into with unsuccessful entrants.
  • The judges' decision is final.

Student Category: Conditions of entry 2017

  • The student category is open to anyone who has attended a course of study in the UK during 2015 or 2016.
  • Entries to the Student category must be unpublished (published work should be entered under the other categories of the V&A Illustration Awards).
  • Entry to the Student category is via the Online Entry System only. Email or postal submissions cannot be considered.
  • One entry per student.
  • Up to three images may be submitted. This may be a sequence as for an illustrated book, or may be alternative trials or preparatory work for a single piece such as a commercial illustration.
  • Entries should have a clearly defined illustrative brief, which must be described on the competition entry system. The brief is open. Students may submit work set as coursework by their tutors or they may define their own imagined brief.
  • Winners must be prepared to lend some or all of the original artwork for the display of winners, which will run from May 2017.
