Dr Lisa Godson

I’m Lisa Godson, a cultural historian with a focus on material culture, architecture and contemporary art. My publications include Modern Religious Architecture in Germany, Ireland and Beyond (2019); Uniform: Clothing and Discipline in the Modern World (2019); Making 1916: Visual and Material Culture of the Easter Rising (2015). I am programme leader of the MA Design History and Material Culture at the National College of Art and Design, Dublin and Visiting Research Fellow at Trinity College Dublin. I often collaborate with creative practitioners, this work includes ‘Build Something Modern’, a feature documentary based on my research into Modernist religious architecture in West Africa and ‘In the Shadow of the State’ with artists Jesse Jones and Sarah Brown commissioned by the Arts Council of Ireland and Artangel, which included a live broadcast from the Liverpool Biennale based on my research into the design history of the speculum. I have lectured and written widely on the history of the speculum.
