Made in Code: Reimagining the Experience of Fashion

March 8, 2023

Between Friday 24 March and Monday 27 March 2023, the V&A will host Made in Code: Reimagining the Experience of Fashion. This installation, funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council, as part of the Creative Industries Cluster Programme, presents a state-of-the-art creative and technical collaboration, showcasing the potential of digital media in fashion, performance, film, games, archives and cultural contexts.

© Reimagining the Experience of Fashion: the Business of Fashion, Textiles & Technology, AHRC funded Creative R&D Partnership led by University of the Arts, London.

Visitors will be able to take part in this exciting prototype digital fashion experience. The installation combines innovative motion capture, garment simulation, cloth rendering and display technology. Have your body motion captured, and your movements will then be translated into a costume-based avatar dressed in the fluid garments of British fashion designer Maria Grachvogel. Made in Code reimagines how we understand garments in motion in the museum, and how technical and creative skills can be blended together to create new, engaging experiences.

Because this prototype installation involves new, emergent technology there are limited timed tickets available for participating in the motion capture. However, additional time slots may be available on the day. Everyone is welcome to drop in and view the screen element of the installation in the John Lyons Gallery without a ticket.
