The Digital Classroom’s first pilot session is taking place this weekend on Saturday 31st January, 11.00 – 16.00, and we are offering free places to 16-19 year olds who would like to come and take part. Help us shape the future of this programme and let us know what you would like to see and do whilst also picking up some new design skills along the way. Dr Emma Neuberg, fashion and textile designer, will be showing you how to create digital prints for textile that can be used in fashion or interior design.
Emma is part of The People’s Print and Slow Textiles based at Somerset House London. Emma’s work draws on a wide range of influences to create striking designs that have been featured across the UK and internationally. As one of the founders of Slow Textiles Group and The Geometrics, she has created a space where British and international textile designers can exhibit work, share their practice and inspire others. Specialising in luxury weave, knit, print, stitch and digital design , the group promote collaboration and skill sharing to progress contemporary textile design.
Emma explores geometric colour dynamics in digital and analogue media. Since developing innovative print technologies at the Royal College of Art, London, for her research degree in the late 1990s, she won several awards including the TechTextil Technical Surface Design Prize, Winston Churchill Lifetime Fellowship for Industrial Textile Production and the National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts Creative Pioneer Award. Following an Artist in Residency at Chelsea College of Art, London, in 2012, she was selected for the British Young Master’s Art Prize 2013.
In the workshop you will be using the Jewellery Gallery to collect inspiration from gemstones before turning your line drawings into digital patterns, layered designs and animated colour swatches. Emma will share her process with you and guide you through how to progress your work into designs for fashion and media uses.
