Last Saturday I was super excited to be running a 1 day Create! course with 13-15 year olds at the V&A. We started off by thinking about concepts that they would like to bring to their work and then got down to drawing! The students came up with some great ideas to visualise including chemistry, woodland animals, Indian paisley and more!
Next the drawings were scanned in over lunch so that we could jump straight on the computers and start creating our repeats. The elements were simplified into black and white pixels so that they could be easily cut away from the background and coloured in. Then we set about aligning the elements to guides and putting them into repeat.
The final stage was tiling out the design to see the repeat in action before visualising on a garment! I’m so impressed with their work, all completed in one very busy day!
I have one more teaching date coming up at the V&A at the end of November creating a digital pattern over two days. More details about this adult workshop can be found here https://www.vam.ac.uk/event/ylY66nEY/stylish-totes-tees-nov-2017
