Holly Burton Learning & National Programmes December 2, 2021
On Thursday 25 November we were thrilled to welcome to the museum the finalists and winners from the second year of V&A Innovate – our annual National Schools Challenge for young people aged 11 to 14. This year, students responded to the themes of Home and Community, developing design ideas that looked towards collaboration and encouraging sustainable ways to live in the world.
Students and teachers from King Ecgbert School in Sheffield, Coundon Court School in Coventry, Trinity School in Newbury, Charter School North Dulwich in London, and Penwortham Girls’ High School in Preston travelled here for a special day to celebrate being selected as V&A Innovate finalists and winners by our panel of judges.
Students had the chance to see their design ideas on display in our John Lyon’s Community Gallery, discussed their projects with Director of the V&A, Dr Tristram Hunt, took part in an experimental drawing workshop with artist Anne Harild, and visited our Alice: Curiouser and Curiouser exhibition.
Congratulations again to all the finalists and winners, our future designers, innovators, makers, problem solvers and creative thinkers!
The 2021/2022 V&A Innovate National Schools Challenge deadline is 7 January 2022. Our themes are: Renew, Connect and Move, inspired by our Design: 1900 – Now galleries. You can access free resources and find out more about taking part on our website.
The themes for the 2022/23 National Schools Challenge will be announced in May 2022.
