Venice Biennale launches first ever summer school in partnership with the V&A

banner-web-961x265[1]This summer, the V&A is collaborating with La Biennale di Venezia and the University of Applied Arts Vienna to launch a new summer school programme. This inaugural La Biennale Summer School will invite participants to engage in a week of cognitive experiments and adventures. It runs alongside the Biennale Special Project on Applied Arts, ‘A World of Fragile Parts’, an exhibition exploring the threats facing the preservation of global heritage sites, curated by the V&A.

The summer school is intended to further explore the themes of digital creation and preservation – a growing concern for cultural institutions everywhere – through a programme of workshops, tours, presentations and site visits. Participants will investigate the role of robotics, artificial intelligence, biotechnology and quantum mechanics in the perception of art, design and architecture. What opportunities will arise for the presentation and preservation of cultural heritage using these new and emerging technologies? How might scientific progress, in conjunction with creative skills and enlightened thinking, change the rules of social life, politics and economics?

Guided by artists and theorists from various fields, 35 participants will have the opportunity to open up new perspectives for thinking and acting in their professional life. If you’d like to take part, please email or telephone +39 041 5218708. You’ll need to include a CV and statement of purpose with your application. For more information visit:

The closing date for applications is 30 May 2016.
