I’ve just got back to my desk having thoroughly enjoyed one of today’s LGBTQ Gallery Tours. These were additional tours specially organised in recognition of tomorrow’s Pride in London parade.
It was really great to see so many people there. As we first gathered, I counted about 100 of us somewhat taking over the Main Entrance, so it was a good job that our guides Dan, Tony and Glynn were able to divide us into three groups to navigate the many galleries as we explored a range of LGBTQ-related objects on display. Given the incredible weather outside and the tempting, cooling waters in the Madejski Garden, I was particularly pleased to see so many people opting to instead join us indoors!
One of the objects we looked at in Tony’s group was the rather magnificent cast of Michelangelo’s David (and his fig leaf!). This was particularly apt as for this weekend the V&A are currently sporting this android avatar as part of the #andproud campaign.
For those of you in London tomorrow, do remember that the LGBTQ Gallery Tours will also be taking place again at 4pm.
