Installing ‘Glastonbury: Land and Legend’ – Day 2

May 26, 2015

Day 2 passed in an exciting flurry of activity!

On the technical side, Oli and Adam installed the projectors and the speakers in preparation for filling the gallery with sound and visuals tomorrow. The consumer unit, with all the switches marked in technical Czech, proved tricky to navigate at first, but the unswervingly helpful gallery staff were able to elucidate!

We also installed eleven banners on the walls of the gallery space. These banners were previously seen on display at the Glastonbury Festival itself. They are all hand painted by artists from Areté Visual Arts, most of whom are local to Worthy Farm. Often political in message, the banners marry important causes with a striking aesthetic, which enables them to stand out in the fields of the Festival site. It is a pleasure to have them adorn the walls of the gallery, communicating the sense of social, political and local engagement, which is so central to the ethos of the festival.

Meanwhile, in the gallery foyer, Emily Harris and Warren Chapman were doing the final tweaks to the film footage. In his edit, Warren has drawn out the festival experience, highlighting moments between people which emerge from the temporary uniqueness of the festival community. The film footage celebrates the festival from different perspectives,  from the festival goers to the litter pickers, the ushers to the stage technicians, who all come together to create the fantastic shared festival space.

So exciting to see the installation going up, I can’t wait to see it. It was such a privilege to be part of the crew capturing the footage. An exhausting 7 days but so exhilarating! The stories we captured were very moving. Good luck everyone. Sara

Hi Sara, thank you so much! You all did a fantastic job and the installation looked wonderful. Look forward to hearing your thoughts! Thanks again, Helen
