Raphael in the Making

The V&A’s iconic Raphael Court (Room 48a) is undergoing a major refurbishment in 2020 to mark the 500th anniversary of Raphael’s death. The Court hosts seven surviving Cartoons – full-scale designs for tapestries that Pope Leo X commissioned Raphael to create for the Vatican’s Sistine chapel in 1515. In these posts, the project team will take you behind-the-scenes, revealing the discoveries and challenges in creating a new interpretative approach for these Renaissance treasures.
