From Farming to Fashion: the Life and Work of Bill Gibb

Celebrating Bill Gibb and the Tana Evening Dress featured in our Scottish Design Galleries

Bill Gibb grew up on a farm in Aberdeenshire. Encouraged by his art teacher at Fraserburgh Academy, Gibb studied at St Martin’s and the Royal College of Art in London before becoming one of Britain’s leading fashion designers in the 1970s. He dressed the likes of Twiggy, Elizabeth Taylor and Bianca Jagger.

This event will see writer and performer Shane Strachan, explore Gibb's life and career through live performances from his spoken-word podcast and film, The Bill Gibb Line; as well as highlights from interviews with Gibb's friends and family, and the fabulous finds in fashion archives across the UK.
