Plastic Lab Talk: Do you know you are wearing plastic?

Polyester = Plastic. Nylon = Plastic. Acrylic = Plastic.

When you think of plastic pollution – do you think fashion and textiles? Probably not, but the truth is many modern clothes are made from plastic. You are probably wearing plastic right now.

To change that, the fashion and textile industries needs a radical makeover. More and more people want to know how our clothes are made and from what. Drop-in to hear from Clare Campbell, founder of Highlands-based sustainable weaver and zero-waste clothing makers Prickly Thistle. Run by rebels, Prickly Thistle are redesigning the system by driving cutting edge research and innovative social change projects to transform the industry in Scotland and beyond.

Clare will be on hand to show you the differences between plastic-based fabrics like Nylon, Polyester and Acrylic and more sustainable natural fibres. She will be talking through some of Prickly Thistles current project’s and ongoing research, and encouraging you to get involved!

Plastic Lab is a free drop-in space where we invite you to dive into themes and ideas from our current exhibition. Drop in and explore some of the free things you can see, do, and get involved in. From board games to plastic sorting stations and pop-up talks, these activities are free and open to all.

This event is part of the Scottish Fashion Festival led by Scotland Re:Design.
