Charity Requests Policy

V&A Dundee receives a significant number of requests for donations, discounts and charity involvement. This policy is in place to facilitate this process and to create a fair and transparent approach. This policy is reviewed on an annual basis.


V&A Dundee is committed to working with the local community and recognising and appreciating the significance and hard work put into fundraising by organisations, clubs, charities and community groups in Dundee and the surrounding areas, as well as the impact V&A Dundee can have to help to generate support, awareness and revenue for these.

V&A Dundee is itself a registered charity and needs to raise around a third of funds required annually from individuals, trusts and corporates so we are limited in what we can give away.

Critical to the financial sustainability of V&A Dundee is its ability to generate income via its commercial activities (including retail and catering). Taking this into account, charitable or discounted requests against these products and activities is very limited.

What we can offer

Each year, V&A Dundee provides a strictly limited number of V&A Dundee Memberships to be used as raffle or auction prizes. 120 memberships are available each year and will be allocated 10 per month. The retail value of a V&A Dundee Membership is £25. Membership allows the holder free entry into the paid-for exhibitions, as well as other onsite discounts.

10 Memberships will be allocated at the end of each month for requests received that month, if the number of requests received exceeds the number of Memberships available in that month, allocation will be made on a random basis.

Due to the large number of applications received, V&A Dundee is unable to accommodate requests from organisations or groups outside of Dundee, Angus, Perth and Kinross, and Fife, however, the Museum may make special provisions as an exception.

  • Requests must be made directly by a Registered Charity or School. If you are fundraising on behalf of a charity or school you must provide us with a letter or email of authorisation directly from the organisation.
  • Requests should be made at least 6 weeks in advance of the event
  • The Membership will be valid for one year from date of issue.

If you would like to apply for the donation of a membership and feel your request fits within the criteria stated above then please complete this form, providing information on the charity or school you are fundraising for and how you would use the donated membership. If you are fundraising on behalf of a charity then please remember to provide a letter or email of authorisation directly from the charity itself.

Charities will be contacted to confirm if they have been successful.

Venue hire requests

We are pleased to be able to offer registered charities a 10% discounted rate for venue hire of the museum, which must be booked through our catering and events partner, Heritage Portfolio.

You must be able to provide evidence of your charitable status in order to qualify for the discount.

Cash and bucket collections

We regret that we are unable to allow cash and bucket collections in the Museum, or on the external plaza. As a charity ourselves, committed to maintaining free access to the Museum, it is critical to us that visitors engage with our own channels of donating, which includes donation boxes positioned around the museum.
