April: Architecture

Join architect Ruth Lonsdale on this month's challenge inspired by nature.

Today's challenge is: Create a small model of a shelter inspired by nature. Think about where you would locate your shelter. You could design it for a garden or your local park. It could be camouflaged on the ground or it could be designed to hang from a tree. You can use natural materials like twigs, leaves and grasses or you could use recycled materials from around your home. Share your designs with the world using #DesignBusters.

March: Museum of Me

Join illustrator Laura Darling to create a Museum of Me and find out how she created our first ever Design Busters activity book!

February: Purple Friday

February is LGBT History month and we’re ready for a bright and bold design challenge, with our friends at LGBT Youth Scotland.

Today's challenge is: Design a purple creation to wear or display for #PurpleFriday​ and show your support for LGBT equality.

Dip into a purple palette of materials, using things you might find at home. Sketch out your ideas and transform one into a violet vision to share with the world!

December: Festive paper windows

Today’s challenge is: Reuse papers from around your home this Christmas to illustrate a wintery window design.

Start with simple sketches, then use paper and scissors to bring your illustration to life. What will we see through your window?

Find and snip your favourite plain and patterned scrap papers (like tags, crackers, cards and wrapping paper) to help you complete your design, then put it on display!

November: Hanging decorations

Hello Design Busters! This is your design challenge.

We’re feeling festive in the museum and getting ready to spruce up our tree with handmade baubles.

Today’s challenge is: Using only black and white materials, create a hanging decoration that really stands out in your home.

What materials can you find to help you make your design? Experiment together and collage newspapers, magazine pages, photos, patterns, words, or drawings to decorate your 2D paper shape.
