Author Alan Powers examines the culture of design in Britain that preceded the foundation of the Bauhaus

The centenary of the foundation in 1919 of the Bauhaus School has added a new layer of interpretation to an already well documented subject. In his book, Bauhaus Goes West, Alan explores how the culture of design in Britain shaped the reception of these ideas when they became familiar in the 1930s, partly through the presence in London of several key Bauhaus staff. He will add some new findings about the related situation in Scotland and look more broadly at the Bauhaus reputation and how it has developed over time.

The talk will be followed by a book signing. Copies of Alan Power’s Bauhaus Goes West will be available to purchase.
