V&A Virtual Classroom: Secondary - 20th Century Design (Summer 2021)

This virtual session delivered by a designer-educator will allow students to explore key 20th century design movements: Art Deco, Modernism and Postmodernism and develop research and visual literacy skills.

Suitable for KS3, 4 & 5, students will analyse, document and interpret 20th Century design objects from the Museum’s collection. Students will be encouraged to work outside their comfort zone and allow spontaneity to play a part in the drawing process. The activities are a form of ideas generation, encouraging the students to view their sketchbooks as a place to experiment and develop individual designs. Please use your school email to book onto one of these sessions for your class.
Available: Selected Thursdays until 15 July 2021
Timing: 60 minutes beginning at 15.30
Cost: FREE
Capacity: 1 class per session (maximum 25 students)

By the end of the session your students will have:

- Developed research skills and knowledge of key 20th century designers and movements, including Art Deco,
Modernism and Postmodernism

- Focused on sketchbook practice and creative processes

- developed visual literacy and observational and critical analysis skills.

As we have a limited number of sessions and would like to give as many schools an opportunity to engage in our virtual programme, we request that you book a maximum of one session per term.
There will be a cancellation fee of £50 per session cancelled within two weeks of the session date.
