Christine Lalumia

Course Director Christine Lalumia

Christine Lalumia lectures and writes on the design and garden histories of the late 19th and 20th centuries. A Consultant Lecturer at Sotheby’s Institute of Art, she was previously the Deputy Director of The Geffrye, Museum of the Home, London for 21 years. Christine is now Executive Director of Contemporary Applied Arts.

Course Overview

In an increasingly virtual and digital world, craft is once again in the spotlight. Material knowledge, practical skills and the ability to make objects by hand are increasingly admired and valued. This course will highlight a range of talented artists are injecting innovation and energy into traditional disciplines. You will also discover vigour and richness in the making of contemporary objects in the 21st century. We will look in depth at a range of materials and disciplines including ceramics, glass, furniture and wood, metal, jewellery, paper and textiles. Each session will include a contextual lecture which will assess the state of craft practice in the UK since about 2000.

This course has a Half Term break on 28 May • Refreshments served • Price reductions available for Seniors (60+), jobseekers (ES40 holders) and registered disabled people
