Frida Kahlo: Making Her Self Up
Inspired by the huipiles worn by the artist Frida Kahlo, create your very own and decorate it with ribbons and machine embroidery. A 'huipil' is a sleeveless tunic, traditionally worn by women in many regions of Mexico and Guatemala, and an integral part of Frida Kahlo's vibrant wardrobe. Teachers from Alice & Co Patterns will guide you through step-by-step from assembling and cutting out a PDF pattern, creating and applying your own ribbon design, and basic sewing machine skills to make up your garment. This is a perfect beginners sewing class and introduction to using PDF sewing patterns.
Fabric and ribbons provided, or bring your own. The class will be using the free Frida Huipil sewing pattern resource created by Alice & Co Patterns for the V&A and available to download here: https://www.vam.ac.uk/articles/sew-your-own-mexican-style-huipil
