The kimono's influence has shaped global fashion trends since the 1600s. Now, join a host of international experts including Akiko Fukai and Yamaguchi Genbei for a day of fascinating analysis and stunning craftsmanship, as we unpick the kimono’s social and sartorial significance around the world through a day of online talks.

The programme is packed with deep insights, including a keynote lecture from Akiko Fukai, Director and Curator Emeritus of the Kyoto Costume Institute, who will set kimono fashion in the context of Japonisme; the story of a rebellious woman seeking an exciting, fashionable life in 19th century Japan told by leading scholar Amy Stanley; and an exclusive interview and tour of the Kyoto showroom of textile entrepreneur Yamaguchi Genbei, the 10th generation head of obi purveyor Kondaya Genbei, who creates works of incredible technical sophistication.

And who better to pull it all together than Anna Jackson, Keeper of the Asian Department at the V&A, and curator of the recent ground-breaking exhibition, ‘Kimono: Kyoto to Catwalk’.

Wherever you are coming from, join the world’s leading museum of art and design for hours of knowledge-sharing with top experts, delivered on our robust and reliable online learning platform.
