Join us as we livestream this theatre design study day from V&A South Kensington. This study day will explore set design and stage technology. Join us as we hear from leading academics and practitioners and explore the evolution of stage design and technology to the present day.

The first half of the day will focus on historic practices. Hear from academics about the development, impact and influence of new technologies on designing for the stage, and how innovations afforded new levels of spectacle during the Victorian period.

The second half of the day will focus on contemporary design practices, showcasing rich and vibrant productions that utilise innovative and effective design on the twenty-first century stage. Leading designers will reflect on their own influences and creative processes, sharing examples from recent productions as they also consider where the future of set design and stage technology might take the Industry in an ever-increasingly digital and environmentally conscious society.

The day will also include the opportunity to learn more about material in the V&A’s Theatre and Performance collection and view set designs and models in the museum’s recently refreshed Theatre and Performance Galleries and new display Enthoven Unboxed: 100 Years of Collecting Performance
