Course Director Jennifer Wearden

Jennifer Wearden was Senior Curator of Textiles in the V&A's Department of Furniture, Textiles & Fashion until 2005 and is now an Honorary Research Fellow. With experience of the textile industry in Lancanshire, and 28 years working with the textiles collections in the V&A, she now uses her knowledge to devise and deliver successful courses.

The breadth and depth of the knowledge of Jennifer and the invited speakers was phenomenal. I gained a much deeper understanding of textiles in history, their social and economic importance and so much technical information. 2018 Textiles Year Course Student

Course Overview

We turn a house into a home by adding furniture and by introducing colour and texture into its rigid structure with the careful use of textiles. Discover how we have used tapestries, embroidered wall hangings and carpets to deaden noise and keep out the cold. You will learn how uncomfortable life was – even for the wealthy – in the 16th century and then see how more and more textiles were introduced into the changing domestic interior.
