Ducks in the Wood, 1946
James Bostock (1917–2006)
18 July - 12 August 2017
This was James Bostock’s Diploma print on his election as an Associate of the Royal Society of Painter-Etchers and Engravers in 1947. Unlike most engravers, Bostock drew his images on the block directly with the burin (engraving tool) instead of sketching them out in pencil first. He described this exacting method as ‘puritanical’, as it did not allow for any mistakes.
