Play the Museum Game!

Love playing games? Ever wanted to design one yourself? Here’s your chance! Come and join our V&A game designer-in-residence Matteo Menapace in a challenge to create games inspired by the Museum of Childhood’s architecture. A playful mixture of games around the museum and creating your own games – open to all families!
Build Me Up!
27 – 31 May 2019, 11.00 (120mins)
£10 per child, Ages 4+
Take the places you know and transform them into a fantastical wearable cityscape. Be part of our moving cityscape and transform yourself into a playful building.
Place of Play
27 – 31 May 2019, 14.00 (120 mins)
£10 per child, Ages 7+
What makes a place fun to be in? Experiment with different building bits and build your own playful place to take home. A mixture of design and model making activities.
– Children need to be accompanied by adults during the workshop. At least 1 adult per 4 children, but no more than 1 adult per 1 child.
– Please note that we cannot accommodate younger children without tickets in the workshop room.
– We are not able to offer refund or exchange for these workshop tickets.
– You can book in advance up until the day of the event, on the day tickets can be purchased at the Information Desk.

Come and explore some of the toys you can find on display at these themed sessions highlighting areas of the Collection.

Our popular storytelling session for all ages, related to themes from the museum’s displays.
Arts and Crafts: Box Buildings
Choose materials, get creative and design a building from a small box with the help of museum staff.
Mischief in the Museum
27 – 31 May, 11.00-13.00 & 14.00-16.00
Ever sung a song with Robbie the Robot, skipped along the Dolls’ Houses gallery, or laid down by the Sandpit to look at the ceiling? Look out for ‘mischief bubbles’ around the museum that our visitors have left, take part and be mischievous, and contribute new ideas for fun things to do in the museum yourself.
1 – 2 June 2019, 11.00-13.00 & 14.00-16.00
Parks, town squares or libraries…what makes our city a great community? Come and join us for a weekend of designing and building an ever-changing cardboard cityscape on the museum’s central hall, with artist Rosemary Cronin.
