Old Skool New School was the result of a collaboration between the Museum and London College of Fashion, bringing together the ideas and designs of children, young people and adults.
Primary school children became the client for young designers in higher education. Looking at school wear, they anticipated the demands of the child of tomorrow and created a challenging design brief. Designing from a child’s perspective produced an exploration of how clothing and accessories might ‘work’ for children, improving their health, education and well-being. The students looked at the potential of new technologies and new materials. Function has fused with fashion, in the search for innovative design solutions to the children’s needs.
The exhibition is dedicated to the memory of Jan Farrell who was instrumental in setting up this collaboration but sadly died before it came to fruition.
