He [Lee] briefed me and he said, I want you to create a shoulder piece with a neck piece like you’ve done before but I want flowers coming out of the shoulder piece. I want the flowers to look quite alien, I want them to look like something that not from this planet. I wanted to make them look realistic, so they would somehow look like flowers that we would connect with and recognise as flowers. So obviously I researched plants like orchids, because to me they are quite other worldly like when you look closely and the beautiful structure of these plants. At this point it was quite interesting because I kind of became a flower arranger to a degree, I had to positon all of the flowers on to the bodice, work it out, make a mock of them all, work out where exactly I had to drill holes, because once I drilled holes into the bodice that’s exactly where the flowers had to be positioned. It was all about very clever positioning and arranging really, so that there was a beautiful proportion of flowers on one side to the other but to still give this very alien feel to the piece.
