The pattern on these cotton blend socks, inspired by traditional Ghanaian Kente cloth, is named for the Highlife musical style that emerged in Ghana in the 1920s during the colonial period. Based on the traditional music of the Akan tribe but played with Western instruments, Highlife gained worldwide popularity in the 1950s and 1960s and has an enduring influence on modern jazz music. The socks are designed in Ghana by Afrisocks, a company founded by Ghanaian entrepreneurs looking to celebrate traditional West African textile designs.
