Maison Bengal is the go-to choice for fashion lovers who want to ensure their accessories are ethically made and sustainably sourced.

This hand-woven bag — featuring rope handles, plain cotton lining and a zip pocket — is made from a rain-fed, eco-friendly crop called jute, which requires no fertiliser or pesticides. The long, soft fibres are extracted from the plant and spun into thread which this is then hand-dyed in natural dye.

Our jute bags are sourced from Fair Trade certified projects that work in remote communities to provide a sustainable income for women and marginalised groups.

About the designer
Maison Bengal

Maison Bengal

Maison Bengal’s goal is to provide some of the poorest people in Bangladesh with a decent and reliable wage. Working closely with local Fairtrade organisations, the company trains marginalised communities, particularly mothers and young women, in handicraft production. Maison Bengal only uses locally grown, natural jute and hogla (local sea-grass), the former, a rain-fed crop, which is eco-friendly and doesn’t require fertiliser or pesticides.
