Mary Quant revolutionised women’s fashion. Her brand was synonymous with the vibrant, optimistic spirit of the 1960s; Quant popularised the mini skirt and became Britain’s best-known designer. The term ‘youth quake’ was coined by Vogue editor Diana Vreeland in 1965, to refer to the cultural changes taking place in fashion, music and society, championed by young people. Quant attributed her primary source of inspiration to the street style of the youth, and in turn gave them affordable designs that expressed the spirit of change.
