2019 marks the 200th anniversary of the births of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, a cause for celebration at the V&A. The story of the museum is closely linked to the royal couple; Prince Albert devised the Great Exhibition of 1851, and many of the exhibits went on to form the first collection of the South Kensington museum, opened by Victoria and Albert in 1857. In 1899, the museum was renamed in their honour. This commissioned illustration by Beatriz Lostalé shows the pair dancing surrounded by celebratory items, including Queen Victoria sapphire and diamond coronet, which is on display in the newly refurbished Jewellery Gallery.

Created exclusively for the V&A.
