DISPLAY: More photographs are being made today than ever before, but most are made with mobile phones, not stand-alone cameras. As the camera fades from view, this display brings the camera itself into focus, including early images of photographers with their cameras, anonymous 20th-century snapshots, and photographs featuring cameras by Eugène Atget, Lee Friedlander, André Kertesz, Phillipe Halsman, Weegee and others.

Our temporary displays complement our permanent collections; there are many free displays around the V&A. They range in size from a single case to a room.
