Re-Focused and Exposed: Charlie Phillips in Conversation
What : Special Events
When : Sunday 16 October, 14.00 – 17.00
Where : The Lydia & Manfred Gorvy Lecture Theatre
SPECIAL EVENT: We re-focus the lens on Phillips’ role as an internationally acclaimed photographer. Given a Kodak Brownie camera in the 1950s, Phillips could never imagine that this would become the instrument of his own activism. In-conversation with Professor Augustus John, Phillips will give an insight into a life lived almost entirely through photography, his inspired regard for art photographers including Henri Cartier-Bresson, the heady days as an international paparazzi, and the 50 years spent documenting the African-Caribbean community.
Part of the Charlie Roots Archive Project, supported by the National Lottery through the Heritage Lottery Fund.
